Does writing have similar rules when dressing clients for success?

When doing consults for clients, I get asked about which rules apply to the individual I am consulting – may it be a for their body type, what not to wear for jewelry in accordance to their hair style, coloring, and among other physical attributes they are conscious and curious about.

ATBS Rule:
Accessories, Tops, Bottoms, and Shoes (ATBS) Rule are the components of the rule I have formulated for consulting clients. An approach that encompass the following:
1. Creating the outfit elements
2. Formulating what is necessary
3. Weeding out the excess in dressing and styling
In writing both writer and essayist George Orwell and Sheridan Baker respectively, agreed on the fact that less is more. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out. Pick out every sentence in turn, asking if we can possibly make it shorter.
The ATBS Rule does just that. The concept of putting the outfit together is to have your basics covered. Put together staple pieces such as a white-cuffed shirt (Top) with cufflinks (Accessories), a pair of trousers (Bottom) and Shoes.
Rules are only effective when you follow which rule is applicable to you and your personal style. If there are set rules that are applicable for everyone then iMage consultants such as myself would not be in existence.
Bottom line, the ATBS Rule for styling or dressing and the use of active words rather than passive ensuring writers are covering the basics adding flavor via their personal style is similar.
Are you in a situation where your basics aren’t covered or are you wondering what rules apply to you?
Does writing have similar rules when dressing a client for success? Yes.

Happy Mother’s Day | Style mom for the weekend tips

Hello everyone!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wish to surprise your Mom this Mother’s Day weekend? Compliment her day out with fabulous finds in her closet to have her dress the part! Styling is a little tricky when you have no idea on how to put outfits together. So I came up with a list to help you style the women in your life for this special Mother’s Day Weekend.

1.)  Location location location? In styling, location is key… where is the venue? Choose one of the categories:

  1. Hip Young Cool
  2. Fine Dining
  3. Relax and carefree

You may notice that the categories are not specific, a b and c are just top three of my favorite categories when styling and doing a consult. The easier the category the less painful it is to find what to wear! Take note as well that the categories are ‘feel’ and how you feel about where you’re going… Personally I think it is more important to feel where you will be than abiding to rules re: the night out.  After choosing a category – check your mom’s closet that embodies the following.

2.)  Apply the FORMULA of in putting together an outfit… ATBS Rule

  1. Accessories – find which accessories you would like to wear and make this as inspiration to working your way down to your last formula. Starting with which body polish you use, make up? Theme of the night and of course do not forget you WTM – wash tone and moisturize – I have two sets, so if I feel expensive that night I would use my Chanel and Darphin products rather than my everyday Kheils essentials.
  2. Top & Bottom – Choose which one you wish to pair together. If you would like mom to wear a dress – dresses are part of the bottom formula so try to check out if she has some nicer shrugs to pair it with or a shawl or suit jacket?
  3. Shoes – this step is key… and that half inch counts!

Step Two is making sure that she well put together, using the categories. If she has a dozen shoes, pick the one that simply screams the category and go with it!

3.)  Finally – your wallet. Do not leave with out it! If you took the liberty in styling her up and making her change perhaps more than ones you may as well treat her all the way by taking her out on your tab.

Have fun… for more information feel free to call Domingo, Your Calgary iMage Consultant for a free 15 minute consult 403 975 2388.

Quote from Susan Bixler – Bixler Consulting Group

A Work in Progress: Lessons Learned

l. Don’t self-limit. In 1980 I started with the idea that I could turn my passion for coaching and consulting into a business. What I didn’t have was experience, funding, or a well-thought-out business plan. Still the business evolved as I called on clients, increased my network, and joined business groups. It was never in a straight line, never without adversity or setbacks. Yet surprisingly I discovered my biggest obstacle was not the marketplace or the competition. It was me. I have always limited myself more than anyone else has. As I expanded my view of myself and what my company could offer, it helped me upgrade how I thought about the unfolding opportunities that laid ahead of me. That’s when I wrote my first book, The Professional Image, which stayed in print for 15 years and launched the company.

2. Sustain your focus on what is most important. Creating clarity in one’s life is very difficult, whether you are graduating from high school or college, are employed or unemployed, or are starting a business. Getting clear on what to do next is not easy whether we are 18 or 80. Dedicating two to three hours every quarter and writing down 90-day goals is a powerful process. The key is not to file them away, but pull them out every day and act on at least one key item within 24 hours. The habit and discipline of thinking, writing, and reviewing goals can create a more exciting and abundant career/life. Good habits empower us. Just remember it’s about progress, not perfection. I have written down a certain goal over and over the past 20 years, and have not accomplished it. But this is the year I will make it happen!

3. Passion is the secret sauce in leadership. Leadership combines the science of fact and emotion, but not always in equal parts. Facts alone have never won a single game in any sport. Facts alone have never built a company, sold an idea, or motivated people to reach beyond themselves. Leadership is tapping into the passion and emotions of your team and combining them with the facts. The simplicity of creating passion and connection is to listen well. Listen as if that person is the only one in your universe. Don’t interrupt and don’t relate anything back to your own experience for at least 5 minutes. Pay attention to what your team member or colleague is passionate about. Here are some questions to ask: “What is important to you in your work here?” “What is important to you in your life outside work?” “What do you want to achieve in life, more than anything else?” “What single thing in business is worth the struggle?”

Facilitate honest discussions with your key team members so they know you care, you understand and support their values, and they feel known by you because you are interested. When you know what triggers motivation and passion in your team members, you have the secret sauce of leadership.

4. Over-prepare, over-practice. Recently, I attended an event where a celebrity speaker had an incredible opportunity to influence about 2,000 people. This audience was already on her side and could write checks, volunteer, and make a difference to her cause. The celebrity came unprepared without much thought to the tremendous platform she had, and as a consequence, her speech fell flat. It was a missed opportunity to impact her audience and benefit the charity in which she had been involved for over 10 years. How many times has that happened to us? I cringe when I think about a commencement speech I delivered poorly because I didn’t take the time to prepare. I just tried to wing it. Over-preparation and over-practicing is never a mistake. We fool ourselves when we think it is. World class performers know better than that and make sure they hit the mark every time.

5. Do everything you can to preserve, maintain, and grow your energy. Get clear on what and who gives you energy and put those people and activities into your life. Know your strengths and keep maximizing them. You will become incredibly competent and consistently energized. Stay away from truly toxic people because they will deplete your energy and make it impossible to grow. Stay away even if they tempt you with a boatload of promises. But allow for the possibility that sometimes a seemingly toxic person may be struggling with issues and fear of which you are not aware. An edge, a temper, or a crummy attitude may melt with an unexpected act of generosity. Repairing a broken relationship can heal and reenergize you.

6. There is no Silver Bullet. If only there were. If only there was one single accomplishment, or academic degree, or amazing talent that created a tremendous, sustainable career. But there isn’t. It takes a lot of hard work, credentialing, fits and starts, hundreds of failed experiments, dodging of bullets, lucky breaks, courage, and adversity for it to all come together. And yet it never comes together perfectly because it’s an ongoing process of constant growth and lessons learned. So have a purpose for your career, your money, your time, and your life beyond yourself. It’s a lot more satisfying, and you can answer the burning question “Is it all worth it?” with a resounding “YES.”

Mr. Tourneau, the owner of a little sporting goods store in my hometown in Ohio, used to say, when he had done something nice and been thanked, “I’ll be dead a long time. So I’m glad I can help now.” Mr. Tourneau has passed away, but he had a lot of quiet victories. He helped hundreds of kids invest in the right sports equipment, often talking them out of the expensive stuff when they were just beginners. He was passionate about sports even though he had polio and needed braces and crutches. Yet he showed up every day, greeted customers, ordered inventory, handled scores of transactions a week, and little by little grew his business. His purpose was to get his hometown kids playing sports, because he couldn’t. In his own way, in our small town, he made life a little better and contributed to the making of ten division-level championship high school football teams.

Our goal at Bixler is to help create world-class managers and leaders, whether they start early in their career or work with us when they are at the top of their game. Our job is to see them beyond where they see themselves and equip them with insight, tools, and resources. Our team has been dedicated to the achievement and success of our clients for 30 years and we look forward to 30 more. One of my mentors told me a few years ago, “Susan, they will take you out on top of a flip chart.” I sure hope so!

Fashion Week’end

Hi all,

I am Domingo Lumanog, Your iMage Consultant based in Calgary. Characterized iMage Corp. – Dressing you for Success!

+ signs all this week in Calgary. After a week of partying in Calgary for the Alberta Fashion Week AFW here comes LG Fashion Week that kicked off last night at Allstream Center. Truely if you are in to fashion you have lots of options a.) meeting designers b.) travel to see fashion c.) my favorite – shopping! Left right and center you can see there are a number of events that are part of your must have or go to see list! I can go on and on and on about how fabulous and glamorous the fashion industry is but the reason why I take part of it is… to draw inspiration so I can share it with all of you. In a functional, uplifting, and in a very appealing way – no drama just fashion as a tool for your to express your true beauty.

So lets talk functionality in fashion – See all Designers that showcased at AFW here… The biggest hit for me at the show were 1.) extravagance 2.) sequence and 3.) color! I always tell my clients to wear color and the way how to do it is to look for it. There certainly a lot of black that were part of the runway however, this does not mean that the tone is back. Ah ah ah.. black isn’t quit back!

There are three things why I wish for your to read this blog and continue to follow me.

1.) Fashion Advice

As said, inspired by the designers from AFW. this weekend for that Saturday night out – find an accent piece and work with it… my best pic – mustard color scarf – not only that it was a hit I think this color needs not to be worn as a dress or as an outfit. Little punches of this color is amazing no matter what undertone your skin is.

Mustard Scarf adding that punch for Easter Dinner this Fashion Weekend

2.) Fashion meets Function

Sequins, yes ladies and gents – this is a fashion article that can be quite functional. As I have seen clients who still hang on to that sequins dress they bought well over 10-15 years ago. I think this is the time to wear them again – just ensure that the style still suits your body now. Sequins is great for parties and just a cocktail night out with friends. A fashionable coffee mid day not so much! Keep them shining in the dark ladies and gents do not let them cheat!

3.) It’s Budget time

Two things about fashion that is true well at least for me. it is expensive and intimidating. Well first off a professional carpenter according to Mike Homes needs yes needs to have 8 different types of hammer to make his or her life a success. Talking about expensive. Secondly, life a B*()($% so when things become intimidating it is natural so get over yourselves people! Moving on… life needs not be expensive all the time. This carpenter invested on those hammers using this as an analogy the hammers are his or her basics. So in fashion ensure that you have your basic article of clothing. That comprise the must have for both men and women. if you wish to get a copy of it from me let me know and I’d be more than happy to share with you what I think we should have for Must Haves. Happy Monday till next week!
